The Jason Sauer sculpture The Navigator has found a new home in Warren, Rhode Island, as part of the Warren Arts & Cultural Commission’s Rotating Sculpture Program.

The Navigator is the third sculpture selected for the Commission’s program and is now installed at the junction of the East Bay Bike Path and Railroad Avenue, where it can be experienced by residents, cyclists, and visitors to Warren.

The sculpture features a giant striped bass native to Narragansett Bay, with St. Brendan, the Patron Saint of the Navy, standing in a small boat and guiding the way. Created from salvaged demolition derby car parts, the piece brings together ideas of navigation, resilience, faith, and the journey through uncertain waters.

The Navigator was previously installed at the Jamestown Arts Center, so its continuation in the Rhode Island landscape feels particularly fitting.

And there’s more to come! The Warren Arts & Cultural Commission will host a celebration for The Navigator in October. I’m looking forward to being there, meeting more people from the Warren community, and celebrating public art together.
